5 Great Sources of Protein when you are on the run
We all know that the more active we are, the more conscious we have to be of our protein intake. And if “we” ( that really means YOU) didn’t know, your first hint should be the sentence I just wrote. The average person should be taking in 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass, where as someone who is working out consistently should be more in the 1.5- 2 grams of protein per pound of lean body mass( I will go further into this in another post).
Our lives can get pretty hectic and everyone has at least one of those days where you really do not have any time to grab a healthy meal or snack. It’s those moments where we ALL break our clean or healthy eating and grab the quickest, easiest, and most portable food we can find. Here are 5 great sources of protien that are all quick, easy, and portable that you should start incorporating into your diet:
1- Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt ( which traditionally is made of ewe’s milk but more commonly now cow’s milk is used) has 15 grams of protein, 6 grams of carbs, and NO fat…all in one serving. Mix it with a teaspoon of honey ( or ven better, agave ) and its a great snack.
2- Edamame

125 calories, 12 grams of protein in these little green beans. Perfect for on the go.
3- Kashi Go Lean Honey Almond Crunch

I cup has 200 cals, 9 grams of protein, and is packed with omega 3′s. This is great to throw in a ziplock bag and have on you as a “just in case”.
4- String Cheese

I prefer Trader Joe’s or Horizon…either way you are looking at 60-120 cals and about 6-8 grams of protein.
5-ready to drink MRP’s ( meal replacement powders)
I personally prefer the taste of Muscle Milk Light Vanilla creme. 150 cals, 7 grams of carbs, and 20 grams of protein. And they taste good!
try them out, let me know what you think!

Hi. Love the blog. Love Rocco. Now I shall take a nap
On point. I tried the Greek yog as per your suggestion and the stuff is fantastic – definitely beats the sh*t out of Dannon’s Light & Fit in both taste and texture. Threw blueberries in for some antiox. My new favorite. Thanks, Cher!
Have you tried the I M Healthy brand Soynut Butter? Tastes pretty damned close to legit peanut butter. If you make protein shakes at home using powder (I LOVE the Muscle Milk Light Vanilla Creme), a table spoon of this stuff gives it great flavor and a nice little extra serving of protein.
Loving these posts so far!
